The “S” Factor

Last night the CRA team got together for The “S” Factor. Hosted at the infamous Crystal Bar in Sheffield City Centre the event attracted Financial and Legal professionals from across the region. The night consisted of teams from various South Yorkshire businesses showcasing their hidden talents by performing tribute acts to raise money for Cancer Research. With entertaining acts such as “The Pussyfat dolls” and “The Stinks” the charitable event had everyone in high spirits and they soon found themselves singing along to the likes of The Backstreet boys and The Spice Girls. The night was a roaring success and money was raised for a fantastic course. Lloyds cut over 1000 jobs

The Banking group Lloyds has announced they are to cut 1080 jobs, almost 100 of those jobs are in Yorkshire. These cuts are part of the 15,000 cuts proposed in 2011.

Aviva offshore jobs to India

Aviva the Insurance group have confirmed plans to move 600 jobs from their York, Sheffield and Norwich offices to India.  An Aviva spokesman said: “We have briefed our employees on our intention to offshore around 600 life administrative roles by 2014. This decision has not been taken lightly.” 2,000 jobs are to be cut globally with around 600 jobs been outsourced to Pune India. The move is part of a cost-saving and operational efficiency plan.

Government announce new national minimum wage

The government has accepted the independent Low Pay Commission’s (LPC) recommendations for this year’s adult and youth National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates. The rate will rise by 12p to £6.31 an hour in October for adults, by 5p to £5.03 for 18 to 20-year-olds and by 4p to £3.72 for 16 and 17-year-olds. The apprentice rate will increase by 3p to £2.68 an hour and the accommodation offset increases from the current £4.82 to £4.91

Apprenticeships are on the rise in Sheffield

With National Apprenticeship week behind us Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg revealed thousands of young adults enrolled on an apprenticeship last year in Sheffield. More than 5,420 young adults were on apprenticeships in 2012, the figure is 54% higher than in 2009/2010. Apprenticeships are a big boost for young people in Sheffield, helping them move up the career ladder and allowing young adults to gain key skills whilst earning. Banking group Barclays are just one professional service who said they are going to double their apprenticeship in take to 2,000 this year as they are becoming ever more popular, with young adults attracted to the excellent career prospects they provide.

Sheffield Forgemasters secure multi million pound deal

Sheffield Forgemasters is moving from strength to strength, recently this year signing a multi million pound deal with Russian steel works Severstal and becoming Russia’s leading steel rolls supplier. Ken Brooks, senior sales manager at Forgemasters, said: “This contract forms part of a three year development of business between Sheffield Forgemasters International Limited and Severstal which is worth £15.5m in total”. The new contract is evidence of Sheffield Forgemasters presence in the wider Russian steel market.

CPP announces its closure

It has been revealed that CPP in Chesterfield will close its offices on West Bar next month and around 100 people will lose their jobs. The blow comes after CPP announced their contract with RBS isn’t going to be renewed.Mike Kneafsey, CPP Managing Director said "It has been a challenging few weeks for CPP and all our people.” The contract loss will result in significantly lower profits for its packaged account business in the UK next year.

Sports Direct save fashion retailer Republic

Sports Direct save more than 2,100 today buying 116 stores, the brand name and the website from the administrators of fashion retailer Republic.  Administrator Hunter Kelly said: "In what has been a very challenging time and volatile climate for retailers, it is particularly pleasing to have completed the successful sale of Republic (Retail) Limited, saving 2,100 jobs across the UK high street and at its Leeds-based headquarters”. Republic had 121 stores and 2,500 staff in total when they went into administration.

Sheffield Forgemasters secure North Sea contract

The first part of a multi million pound contract to supply crucial components for a North Sea oil platform has been completed. A 114 tonne clamp casting has which will be used to repair the under sea structure of the Siri platform, on the Danish continental shelf has been dispatched. The clamp casting is the crucial part of the sub structure. Sheffield Forgemasters will manufacture 35 flange and spacer castings as part of the second phase of the contract which will be dispatched early 2013.

KPMG UK profits drop

The Big Four Accountancy firm has revealed KPMG has recorded lower profits but higher annual revenue in the year to September 2012. UK profits have fallen by 13% to £349m and revenue has climbed to £1.774m from £1.707m which represents 4% growth. The slump in profits is partly due to the loss of 275 staff after a restructuring within the company.
