Sheffield Law Society annual dinner a sell out
Despite the economic climate – and the gale force winds! – the 2011 Yorkshire Banquet (Sheffield Law Society’s 135th annual dinner) was a sell-out. Over 360 people attended what has become an un-missable event in the Yorkshire legal calendar.
Brimming with an array of senior judiciary, lawyers and business people and honoured with the attendance of dignitaries such as the Lord Lieutenant, the High Sheriff, the Lord Major and the Master Cutler, the Cutlers’ Hall buzzed until the early hours of the morning. Speeches from The Right Honourable Lord Justice Leveson and Linda Lee, President of The Law Society, left the audience filled with both laughter and a sense of the contribution that the legal sector undoubtedly makes to Sheffield Society.
Christopher Fry, current President of Sheffield Law Society said: “ I don’t know where the first event was held in 1876, but the Cutlers’ Hall has been our host for as long as anyone can remember and I’m honoured that this banquet forms as much a part of the civic calendar as it did then. I’d like to thank our main sponsors, CLS, CRA Legal, Bank House Chambers, Grant Thornton, Lamp, Park Court Chambers, South Yorkshire Investigations, Trimegalabs and Wesleyan for Lawyers for helping to make it such a fantastic event. We had the opportunity to raise a substantial amount of money for our nominated Sheffield based charities, the British Tinnitus Association, and the Sheffield Leukaemia & Blood Disorders Appeal - but most of all we managed to balance 135 years of civic tradition with an awesome party!”
Robert Addy of one of the headline sponsors, CRA Legal said: “I am delighted to have supported Sheffield Law Society, and Chris as President, and congratulate him on what has been an enormous success, despites being in times which are clearly difficult for all. I hope that the society will continue to go from strength to strength and I will carry on supporting it wherever I can.”
