Investment into Sheffield’s Steelworks
Firth Rixon based near Meadowhall are a global leader in engineering and are a world leading provider to the aero space market. If plans go ahead Firth Rixon are to build one of the largest hydraulic presses in the world. This will create 60 new jobs and will have a knock on effect on businesses that supply Firth Rixson.
The steelworks are to build four temping forges, a pump room and other infrastructure including cranes, storage and control areas. No objections have been made and a council planning officer stated that “the proposal represents a new addition to the existing Firth Rixson steelworks and is a significant investment into Sheffield”.
If plans go ahead this will be excellent news for Sheffield's economy and the engineering industry. The expansion plans will be discussed Monday at 2pm in the town hall.
