Sheffield Forgemasters is going ahead to become the sole UK producer of heavy forgings and castings which can be used at the heart of nuclear reactors. David Street, Group Quality Director said “We are halfway through the process and will have the new ASME programme ready for external audit by March 2013.” Forgemasters are expecting to invest £140,000 to maintain their current accreditations and secure higher level NPT accreditation.
Sheffield Forgemasters have reported increased profits of £5.4m for the year ending 30 June 2012 with a turnover of over 106.8m in a global economic recession. Sheffield Forgemasters strongest markets are off shore oil and gas, plus power generation and defence sectors. Tony Pedder, Chairman of SFM said “As well as continuing to strive to meet the most complex needs of our customers, we have responded to these challenging conditions by focusing our attention on costs and efficiencies.”
