Role: Classic car Sales Specialist
Location: Field based but working in the North Yorlshire area
Salary: £25,000 to £27000 basic plus commission OTE £50 – £60k

Role:
As a Sales Specialist with a well-known classic car auctioneer, your primary role is to generate income through the sale of classic and collector motor vehicles, adhering to company-specified KPIs (key performance indicators).
You will handle inbound valuation enquiries to convert them into consignments whenever possible, considering reserves and terms.
Self-generation of business is essential, achieved by contacting owners advertising classic and collector motor vehicles for sale in specialist magazines, club publications, on specialist websites (such as carandclassic, classiccarsforsale, pistonheads, prewarcar/postwarcar, classicdriver, classic-trader, eBay), and through social media platforms (Facebook Marketplace, Instagram). Focus should be placed on vehicles that are poorly advertised (weak descriptions, unappealing images) or have been listed for an extended period.
Building, maintaining, and enlarging a network of clients for long-term interaction with the company is a key aspect of the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to phone calls or emails from clients or staff members within two working days.
  • Visit clients to secure the consignment of classic and collector motor vehicles. These visits should include detailed photography of the vehicle(s) and associated documents (registration, MOT certificate, etc.). If the vehicle(s) have a history file, review it at the client’s location or take it for documentation. Photograph key documents such as Heritage Certificates, old registration documents, and restoration invoices if the client wishes to retain the paperwork.
  • Negotiate with sellers to consign vehicles at saleable prices to meet your KPIs.
  • Research values and establish price precedents before negotiating or discussing with clients. Seek assistance from colleagues if necessary.
  • Ensure every entry form contract is signed and a copy left with or sent to the client.
  • Inform clients about the withdrawn lot clause in the entry form contract and their consumer rights regarding a cooling-off period (14 days if visited at home or work).
  • Familiarize yourself with the company’s back-office system to (a) create and update client records, (b) upload vehicles (plus associated images and paperwork), (c) enter details of any entry fee or vendor’s commission discounts, and (d) execute provisional sales.
  • Assist with the setup, viewing, and breakdown at any company-held auction.
  • Conduct condition reports at auctions promptly, regardless of whether you consigned the vehicle.
  • Support colleagues in the admin and finance departments to maintain a high level of client service.
  • Write a minimum of three informative and engaging bullet points for every consignment.
  • Catalogue any consigned classic and collector motor vehicle (or prepare information for another to catalogue) in accordance with company requirements.
  • Perform HPi checks in a timely manner.
  • Inform management of any complaints promptly.
  • Solicit favourable reviews on TrustPilot, Google, etc.
  • Request help as needed (training, second opinion, advice, etc.).
  • Keep your Microsoft Outlook diary updated with appointments, annual leave, team meetings, etc.
  • Uphold the company ethos of professionalism, approachability, and transparency at all times.
  • Expand your specialist knowledge across more eras and marques.

Key Competencies:

  • Microsoft Outlook – Email
  • Photography – Website, Catalogue, and Condition Report images
  • Microsoft Word – For cataloguing or preparing information
  • Microsoft Excel – For updating lead trackers, etc.
